Allstate home insurance rates are lower than most major competitors. Home insurance shoppers looking for a broad range of policy offerings and solid customer service experience will want to consider Allstate, which was rated highly for customer satisfaction by 84.3% of its customers in the survey.
The Insure.com 2025 Best Home Insurance Companies ranking finds Allstate at No. 3 overall.
Allstate received 4.4 stars and ranked well in every category of our survey of insurance consumers, although it didn’t win any. As one of the biggest home insurance companies in the nation, Allstate is on solid financial footing and has an AM Best rating of A+. Respondents in the survey didn’t score Allstate particularly highly for discounts, but lower premiums may make up for that.
AM Best's Financial Strength Rating is an independent opinion of an insurer's financial strength and ability to meet its ongoing insurance policy and contract obligations.
Below is our review of Allstate. It’s based on third-party metrics, including two J.D. Power studies (Home Insurance Study and Property Claims Satisfaction Study) and an in-depth survey of insurance customers. Find the full methodology here.
Allstate’s home insurance rates are low compared to many other major home insurance companies; it was the second-cheapest company we ranked. The table below displays the average annual rate by company.
Allstate received a customer satisfaction score of 84.3%. It’s a solid score, although not the highest. Amica received the highest satisfaction score in the survey at 96.2%.
Another metric to consider: J.D. Power’s 2024 Home Insurance Study of overall customer satisfaction gave Allstate 631 out of 1,000; the average was 640.
When asked to rate policy offerings, 82% of Allstate respondents said they were satisfied. That’s a sold score, but not the highest. Nationwide won the category at 96.4%.
Allstate scored 88.1% for ease of service. Most companies scored in the 80s here, with Erie breaking out and receiving a perfect score of 100%.
When asked, 86.7% of customers said they would recommend Allstate to others. Only three competitors scored higher in this category: USAA, Erie and Progressive. USAA doesn’t offer policies to everyone, however, so it’s not included in rankings, and Erie is a regional company.
This is another strong category for Allstate. Of the Allstate customers surveyed, 88.1% said they trust the company. Allstate’s score landed in the upper half, but Safeco earned a perfect 100%.
Allstate performed solidly here, with 89.6% of respondents saying they plan to renew. Several companies scored higher, but every company surveyed earned scores in the 80s and 90s for renewals. At 92.9%, Erie had the best score.
For claims handling, Allstate earned a score of 75%, lower than many competitors. Erie topped this category at 100%. Most of the carriers were in the 70s and 80s, with only Amica and Erie breaking 90%.
Another metric to consider: In J.D. Power’s 2024 Property Claims Satisfaction study, Allstate’s score of 868 was just below the average of 869.
When we asked about their digital experience, including the company’s website, 83.1% of Allstate customers said they were satisfied. This is a good score that lands in the middle on our survey. The highest score goes to Amica at 92.6%.
The Allstate app has 4.8 stars in the Apple App Store and 4.0 stars in the Google Play store.
Among Allstate customers, 74.1% said they were satisfied with the company’s bundling option for auto and home policies. Most companies scored between 60% and 80% here. Amica topped the list at 89.5%.
Allstate’s average bundling discount is in the middle at 16%. It’s not the biggest but it is a larger discount than many competitors, including Amica.
Allstate received a rating of 67.2% satisfaction in the discounts category, a score similar to that of many competitors. Amica received the highest score at 84.6%.
Note: *Allstate is currently not writing new home insurance policies in California.
Founded in 1931 during the Great Depression, Allstate first wrote auto insurance and then moved into other types of coverage. Allstate has grown into a Fortune 500 company offering home, auto, motorcycle and many more specialty policies across the U.S. Allstate is one of the top 10 writers of home insurance in the nation and sells insurance online and through local agents.
The company launched the Allstate Foundation in 1952 to advance racial equality and build non-profit leaders through its Nonprofit Leadership Center; it still operates today.

Insure.com in the fall of 2024 surveyed more than 1,750 insurance consumers (1,011 people with home insurance). The survey was conducted by online market research company Slice MR.
Respondents were asked to name their home insurer and then grade it in the following categories:
The percentage of respondents who said they were satisfied or very satisfied with their insurer is presented in the results.
We then asked respondents to provide a yes or no response to indicate their agreement with the following statements:
The percentage of respondents who said yes is presented in the results.
The editors compiled the survey results and then selected – based on the number of survey responses – the top companies for further evaluation.
They then collected AM Best data, which measure financial strength, and National Association of Insurance Commissioners’ complaint data, which ranks a company by the number of customer complaints it receives. The Insure.com team identified the NAIC codes of each underwriting company for each carrier and calculated a weighted average complaint index, weighted by the annual written premium. The associated NAIC complaint index score was used in the calculations.
They also collected insurance rate data from Quadrant Information Services.
With the help of Prof. David Marlett, Ph.D., Managing Director of the Brantley Risk and Insurance Center at Appalachian State University, the editors created a rating system to determine which insurance companies were best in each sector. For home insurers, we took the following and gave each a weight.
Each insurer was awarded between half a star and 5 stars. No company in the ranking received less than half a star in any category, and 5 stars was the most any insurer could receive.
